Rotating Equipment and Mechanical Integrity Inspection
Onshore & offshore plants depend on substations to collect, transform and export power to the grid. Poor inspection of transformers, switchgear, protection systems or earthing can lead to outages, electrical faults, fire and safety incidents.
How TechInspecta supports clients
echInspecta supports clients by inspecting substations during construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning and operation. We verify installation quality, equipment condition, electrical safety and compliance with approved drawings.
We inspect:
- Power transformers
- MV/HV switchgear
- Circuit breakers
- Disconnectors and earthing switches
- Protection relays
- Control panels
- Cable terminations
- Busbars and cable trenches
- Earthing systems
- Fire protection and oil containment
International standards used
The IEC 62271 series covers high-voltage switchgear and controlgear. For electrical installation verification, IEC 60364-6 provides requirements for initial and periodic verification. For substation grounding, IEEE 80 gives guidance for safe grounding practices in AC substations.
Step-by-step process
- Review drawings and specifications - We check single-line diagrams, equipment datasheets, protection philosophy and approved layouts.
- Inspect physical installation - We check panels, cables, trays, conduits, glands, supports, terminations and protection devices.
- Inspect earthing system - We verify bonding, earth bars, connections, corrosion protection and continuity.
- Inspect lightning protection - We check air terminals, down conductors, earth connections and surge protection devices.
- Witness electrical tests - We support insulation resistance, continuity, polarity, earth resistance and functional checks.
- Identify unsafe conditions - We classify exposed conductors, poor terminations, missing labels or incomplete protection.
- Provide corrective action report & Recomendations - We issue a report with defects, photos, risk level and recommendations before energization.
